BIOGRAPHY:
Liana joined DuMoulin Boskovich in late July 2004, bringing
with her over 13 years experience in resolving the difficult
and often contentious issues faced by families in transition.
Previous careers in the banking and insurance fields have
given her a solid background in the often complex process
of dividing family assets and personal estates.
Family Law remains Liana's primary focus, including both
Mediation and Collaborative Law in addition to litigation
and negotiation. She also handles significant property
law matters. Wills and Estates practice includes wills
drafting, wills mediations and contested estates. One
reported trial decision; Danchuk v. Calderwood, is still
cited with authority concerning cases of "undue influence"
in the making of a will.
With her straightforward, client-centred approach, Liana
seeks to provide creative solutions to complex problems.
Her strong academic qualifications and significant Court
experience at both Provincial and Supreme Court levels
provide her with a wide range of options for solving those
problems, whether through Court process or a negotiated
settlement.
Liana obtained a First Class Honours degree in History
and International Relations from the University of British
Columbia and, after attending the University's Law School,
was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1992.
Liana's commitment to the community is strong. She has
appeared as a panelist and contributing author at Continuing
Legal Education and Trial Lawyers Association seminars
and regularly lectures on family law and estate planning
for community organizations. She continues a commitment
to higher learning through involvement as an auxiliary
instructor and lab supervisor at the Institute of Paralegal
Studies at Capilano College. She is a member of the Vancouver
Collaborative Divorce Practice group, a voluntary association
of lawyers, mental health professionals and financial
advisors who meet regularly to address the difficult issues
facing separated parents. A lifetime North Shore resident,
Liana loves the scenery and recreational amenities of
her Deep Cove neighbourhood and is an active hockey and
baseball parent.
