BIOGRAPHY:
John Boland has been a counsellor/psychotherapist for 30 years and has a wealth of experience in the areas of individual and couples therapy, as well as children and youth. He has worked as a counsellor in schools and community agencies, and was on faculty for 10 years at Vancouver Island University. Presently he works solely in his private counselling practice in Vancouver
Supporting parents and working with families, children, and youth has always been a prime focus of John’s practice. He has the ability to respectfully coach parents and support children even in times of extreme stress, and in his practice as a Collaborative Divorce Coach, he is skilled at helping parents move through the hurt and pain of divorce, while keeping their mutual love of the children intact as the foundation of a new co-parenting relationship. He helps parents ensure that the needs of the children are always at the forefront of any agreement and find mutually workable solutions in everyone’s interest. John firmly believes it is not separation and divorce that cause irreparable damage to children but how the parents handle the breakup.
In his work as Child Specialist John first wins the respect and trust of the child/adolescent and then helps them articulate how best to meet their needs in this new family structure. Through both play and drawings children are able to talk about what they really need in order to grow and thrive in the new reality of their life. John’s commitment is to help separating parents move through this most difficult time in their lives and minimize the damage to both them and their children. |
